Appalachian Chamber Music Festival

Katie founded the Appalachian Chamber Music Festival in early 2021 after nearly a decade of brainstorming ideas, plans and vision for creating a chamber music festival that celebrates history, nature and culture. ACMF brings international talent to the area of Harpers Ferry, WV and surrounding communities.
The festival achieved huge initial success in its inaugural season, celebrated in August, 2021, giving 9 performances to in-person audiences and a chamber music workshop and interacting with the local community and partners. As Artistic Director, Katie strives to bring music to audiences in new, meaningful and accessible ways. Her goal is to celebrate the rich heritage of the region a world stage, and bring authenticity and camaraderie of chamber music to audiences of all ages and experiences. Cassadó: DYCP/Arts Council England
The Cassadó Project Together with Dr. Rosi Song (Durham University) is an ambitious research and performance based project exploring the life and legacy of cellist/composer Gaspar Cassadó supported in part by a "Developing Your Creative Practice" grant from Arts Council England. The culmination of their work will be presented at various Instituto Cervantes locations in Europe, at Durham University and elsewhere in 2022.
In October of 2021, Dr. Song and Katie travelled to Cologne, Germany to visit the Hochschule where Cassado was last posted and work with world-renowned musician Johannes Moser on interpretation of repertoire surrounding Cassado's life and influence, including the cellist's own works. |
Cello Power
Cello Power was born from the idea that the music world is a richer place when we can all succeed in our performance goals in better and more efficient ways. Katie started Cello Power in December of 2020 with friend and colleague Ailbhe McDongagh (Royal Irish Academy of Music).
The ethos of the project is centered around the idea that learning and improving technique is something that happens for a lifetime and can be fun, supportive and empowering. The pair create a inclusive online space where cellists at any stage can learn.
Their current 2021 project covers all 40 Popper Studies "High School of Cello playing" and includes highly esteemed special guest cellists from around the world.

DYCP: A Winter's Journey, ReimaginedThe concept for "A Winter's Journey, Reimagined" is directly inspired by the song cycle "Winterreise" by Franz Schubert, and is a collaborative performer-composer led project. Katie begun the creative process for this project in 2021 as part of her DYCP grant, which draws on many other inspirations including the work of dancer/choreographer Akram Khan, Maxwell-Davies' "8 Songs of a Mad King", the operatic works of Benjamin Britten (particularly Peter Grimes), and theatrical performance of Kafka's Metamorphosis where the cello (Schuyler Slack) represents the alter-ego of Gregor Samsa.

Semibreve Collective
Katie joined Semibreve as a performer and Co-Artistic Director in 2020 in the midst of the Covid-19 pandemic. Together with Annie Ball, the ensemble has brought a fresh musical voice to the Northeast with their "genre-defying" sound to critical acclaim from local periodicals. Katie and Annie have tackled many ambitious projects together, including a rural outdoor tour of Northumberland in Autumn 2020, funded in part by the Ray Wind Fund, which sought to bring live music to communities that were isolated during the pandemic. Other significant projects have included their "12 Days of Christmas" Livestream festival, Clara Vale Outdoor gigs and the Hearth Arts Centre's "Kindness through culture" festival.
